자리, 교차하는

작업은 유년 시절의 회상에서 출발한다. 그 회상은 자연의 생명력과 평화로움, 그 속에 어우러진 사람들의 삶이 만들어낸 서사가 담긴 기억이다. 유년은 자연과 함께하는 ‘자리’에 존재했고, 서로 스며들었다. 본인은 현재와 유년의 감각, 경험, 상상이 교차하는 표현에 관심이 있다. 작품은 내부 또는 외부, 현실 또는 비현실, 과거 또는 현재의 경계, 통로, 흐름, 교차 등을표현하고 있다.

작업 속 이미지들은 평면적인 이미지와 입체적인 이미지, 원근과 비원근이 교차한다. 또한 기억과 상상과 현재가 교차하는 통로로써 창이라는 구조적 이미지는 정서와 생각을 담는 매개로서 다층적으로 교차한다. 더불어 작가의 상이한 질감 표현은 과거와 현재, 내면과 외부, 인간과 자연, 현실과 비현실의 경계와 교차를 탐구하는 과정이다.

본인의 회화는 유화라는 느린 매체를 활용해, 쌓인 시간과 기억을 천천히 구축한다. 유화 물감이 마르기를 기다리며, 창을 열고 그날의 공기와 창 너머의 색과 일상을 통해 겹겹이 쌓인 기억을 마주하기도 한다. 이 기억들은 캔버스 화면에 이미 그려 놓은 장면과 교차하며, 떠오른 기억 속의 감각과 일상의 감각을 덧입힌다. 이렇게 기억을 마주하고 캔버스에 올리는 반복적인 과정은 느리다. 그래서 작가의 작업은 교차하는 움직임 속에서도 고요함이 느껴진다.

본인의 회화는 ‘창’ 이라는 구조적 모티브를 통해 ‘교차하는 자리’를 표현한다. 현대를 살아가며 본인이 그리는 자연은 단순한 회상이 아니다. 그것은 우리가 점차 잃어가고 있는 감각, 빠르게 변화하는 시대 속에서 되찾고 싶은 느린 시간의 소환이다. 어린 시절, 봄비 내리는 날 봉창 너머로 바라보던 자연의 기억은 현재의 아파트 창과 맞닿아, 시간과 공간을 넘어 이어진다. ‘교차하는 자리’는 그렇게 과거와 현재가 함께 숨 쉬는, 조용하고 따뜻한 마주침의 공간이다.

Place, intersecting

The work begins with reminiscence of childhood. The recollection is a memory containing the vitality and peace of nature, and the narratives created by the lives of people harmonized with it. Childhood existed in a 'place' with nature and permeated each other. I am interested in the expression that the senses, experiences, and imaginations of the present and the child intersect. The work expresses internal or external, reality or unreality, boundaries, passages, dandruffs, and intersections of the past or present.

The images in the work intersect with flat and three-dimensional images, perspective and non-perspective. In addition, as a path where memory, imagination, and the present intersect, the structural image of a window intersects multi-layers as a medium containing emotions and thoughts. In addition, the artist's different textural expressions are the process of exploring the past and present, inner and outer, humans and nature, and the politics of reality and unreality.

Using a slow medium called oil painting, my paintings slowly build up accumulated time and memories. Oil painting While waiting for the paint to dry, I open the window and face the frightened memories of the day's air, colors, and daily life beyond the window. These memories intersect with the scenes already drawn on the canvas screen, adding to the senses in the memories and everyday life that have emerged. The anti-North Korean process of facing memories and putting them on the canvas is slow. The artist's work is still, even in the intersecting movements.

My painting expresses the 'intersection' through a structural motif called the 'window'. The nature he portrays while living in the modern world is not just a flashback. It is a sensation that we are gradually losing, a summons of the slow time that we want to revive in the rapidly changing times. The memory of nature, as a child looking through the spring rainy day window, touches the current apartment window and continues beyond time and space. The 'intersection' is a quiet and warm space where the past and the present breathe together.
