이명진 작가는 건축과 공예의 상호적 차용에 대한 이야기를 도자 작업으로 풀어낸다. 공예와 건축은 인류의 보편적인 생리적 필요에 의해 발현된 미적 자산 이라는 점에서 그 궤를 같이 하는데, 작가는 이러한 지점을 도자의 재료적 물성과 기능의 개념, 그리고 건축물의 은유적 형상을 혼합한 일상공간 속 사물로 표현한다. 이로서 작가의 작업에서 볼 수 있는 기본적인 건축 요소인 기둥과 보, 사각 혹은 둥근 매스의 요소들은 작가의 손에 의해 공예에서 논해지는 기능을 띄는 사물로 재탄생 하게된다.

Myungjin Lee explores the reciprocal borrowing between architecture and craft through his ceramic works.

He recognizes that craft and architecture share a common trajectory as aesthetic assets that emerged from humanity’s universal physiological needs. Lee expresses this point of convergence through objects situated in everyday space—works that merge the materiality and functional concepts of ceramics with the metaphorical forms of architecture. As a result, fundamental architectural elements seen in his work—columns and beams, rectangular or circular masses—are reborn as objects endowed with the notion of function as discussed within the field of craft.
